Putting the Ecology in Forestry
In BC, we have one of the best Ecosystem Classification Systems in the world called the BioGeoClimatic Ecosystem Classification System or BEC for short where we examine the Plants (Biology) as Key Ecosystem indicators for Soil Moisture and Soil Richness (Productivity) on a given site.
This information is primarily used to determine which conifer tree to replant on each site. But the BEC system is not used in forestry to determine the Ecosystem Health and Resiliency, let alone should an area be logged and the manner in which it should be logged, if it needs to be logged.

But what is required is an entire suite of Systems, Treatments, Methods, and Silviculture Systems that will look at the Ecosystems Health and Resiliency for all land based activities such as Forest Harvesting and Restoration Activities.
